Title 1 schools by definition are those schools with 40% or more of students on free and reduced lunch (highlighted in yellow on the map). Children whose family income is at or below 130 percent of the poverty income guidelines are eligible for free meals. Those with incomes between 130 and 185 percent are eligible for reduced price meals. Campus planning committees determine how the money will be spent to improve student achievement in reading, mathematics and science.

  • 34 elementary/9 middle/3 high schools are Title 1 (7 of those are new for the 2010-2011 school year)
  • 8 years ago there was a federal mandate with the “no child left behind” that every public school district in the US appoint a homeless liaison for their district
  • Approx. number of transitionally homeless students in CFISD is over 1,500
