What is a poverty simulation?
Poverty Simulations are a weekend experience held in Waco, Texas and facilitated by a ministry called Mission Waco. A poverty simulation takes participants out of their comfort zone and helps them begin to understand the issues of poverty and get a small glimpse of being poor for a weekend. Susan Nichols, Executive Director of Mission Cy-Fair, has taken hundreds of students and adults to Waco for the past 15 years for this powerful experience.
Why participate in a poverty simulation?
Did you know that Jesus addresses wealth and poverty more than any other subject? One out of ten verses in the gospels deals with money and poverty. A poverty simulation opens ones eyes to poverty, both in the US and globally. At a poverty simulation you will learn practical things that can be done in a your community to address under-resourced individuals.
Who can participate in a poverty simulation?
Anyone interested in better understanding God's heart for the poor and marginalized. However, students must have completed 8th grade to attend.
