REACHING OUT TO THOSE IN MULTI-HOUSING
The term "multi-housing" has become synonymous to apartments, but also includes nursing homes, college dormitories and homeless shelters. At a recent conference on multi-housing ministry given by UBA, the speaker, Barbara Oden, shared some startling statistics. At least 50% of Houston's 5 million residents live in a multi-housing situation. Another startling statistic is that 96% of them will never attend a local church. The reason: they do not feel like they fit in or have anything in common with the current church culture.
We have been given a command by the Lord Jesus to "make disciples of all nations". Making disciples can start right here in Cy-Fair in nursing homes, college dormitories, homeless shelters and apartments. They need churches and church groups to adopt them to first show God's love in practical ways, and then to introduce them to God's love and His plan for their lives. The opportunities to serve range from providing homework help to planning parties and conducting Bible studies.
Someone once said that people won't care how much you know until they know how much you care, but people also equate true caring with consistent non-threatening relationship building. Will you pray about how God might want to use you in Multi-Housing Ministry? Where will God use you and others like you from your church?
